History

History:

The Amphora Wreck, discovered off the coast of Çamburnu, is generally found in a well-preserved condition. The site contains a large number of amphoras that are clearly visible on the seabed surface. While some of the amphoras are broken, others remain intact and in a vertical position, indicating that the wreck has lain undisturbed on the seafloor for a long period.

Another notable feature is the physical damage caused by numerous anchors within the wreck area. You can observe that this damage has led to structural deterioration, particularly in regions where the amphoras are most densely concentrated.

This Amphora Wreck discovered off Çamburnu is considered a tangible indicator of the ancient maritime trade that persisted along the Straits route. Furthermore, the location of the wreck holds historical significance as it sits on a strategic transit route extending from the Black Sea to the Aegean. The density and well-preserved state of the amphoras suggest that the wreck may be the result of a single maritime accident.

Diving Equipment Information

The equipment used for diving includes standard scuba gear. A 3–5 mm wetsuit is suitable between April and October, while a 7 mm neoprene wetsuit, a semi-dry suit, or a dry suit is worn between November and March.
