During the Italo-Turkish War between Italy and the Ottoman Empire, the vessel was tasked with transporting Italian troops to Tripoli. In 1915, it was purchased by the British Admiralty and sent to Gallipoli. This Italian-flagged steam cargo and passenger ship undertook its final mission on behalf of Britain at Gallipoli during World War I. Built in Govan by Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd. and weighing 2,817 gross tons, the ship was deliberately sunk in 1915 atTekke Bay to be used as a floating pier.
