History

History

The SS MILO, measuring 74 x 9 meters, was built in 1865 as a steam-powered passenger ship. With the outbreak of World War I, it entered the service of the British Admiralty and was utilized during the war to transport supplies to troops stationed at Anzac Cove in the Arıburnu region.

On October 26, 1915, the ship was stabilized by being filled with concrete to protect other vessels approaching the open coastal area, and a generator was installed on board to illuminate the shore with searchlights. Used for this purpose until the end of the war, the ship was scuttled during the evacuation. Lying at a depth of 5 to 7 meters, the SS MILO remains largely intact in form despite significant structural damage.
